This is the finished product, an illustrated poem drawn and colored with colored pencil on old palette wood. First, I wrote a poem: a series of haikus that each make up a verse of a larger poem. Next, I sketched and planned the layout of the poem and illustration first in my sketchbook, then on a larger piece of scrap paper. Then, I sanded down a couple of planks and drew and colored each half of the illustration (top and bottom) on a plank, also adding packing tape transfer overlays over the burnt trees on the right segment. Finally, I painted over the center, rewrote my poem, and attached the halves together with other boards. I love both the poem, describing a great forest fire and the regrowth of the plant life afterwards; it's meant to give off a feeling of hope. The illustrations (particularly the fire and tape transfers) also greatly please me. Another project that I put my speed and skill to effective use in completing.
